About 740 A. C., Zell am See was founded by monks from Salzburg. The town and its lake are surrounded by both massive alpine glaciers and softer grass mountains and it has been a major center of alpine tourism since the late 19th century. Zell am See is well known for its picturesque city centre, the variety of sport and leisure acitivities offered.
